As the 2023 summer holiday season gets under way, ESA and Amsterdam’s international airport are once again giving travellers a chance to discover some out-of-this-world destinations.

Amsterdam Airport Schiphol is one of the busiest international hubs in the world with millions of passengers passing through the airport each year. Now, a tie-up between ESA and Schiphol is showcasing Europe’s inspiring space activities for travellers making their way through the airport.

ESA’s screens at Amsterdam Schiphol Airport will get travellers thinking about space, and maybe make them smile as they go on their way.

The screens at Schiphol provide a wonderful opportunity to increase awareness of ESA, reaching a large and diverse audience. Located in prominent positions, including a huge screen at Schiphol Plaza, travellers will encounter a variety of eye-catching and thought-provoking ESA visuals and videos.

This activity coincides with a very busy time in the ESA calendar, with new astronaut flights, the final launch of ESA’s workhorse launcher the Ariane 5, as well as preparations for its Ariane 6 replacement, plus a space probe to Mercury and the search for life on the moons of Jupiter. Featuring content like this, the screens are sure to get people thinking about destinations further afield while they wait to be called to the departure gate.

Reflecting on the impact of the ESA screens, Jérôme Legger, Brand Partnerships Manager for Amsterdam Airport Schiphol, said: “Schiphol Media is very excited to partner with ESA and to show their wonderful campaign visuals, which create a very special atmosphere for passengers and visitors at Schiphol.”

The new communication initiative with Schiphol is a welcome continuation of a cooperation that goes back to 2014. Anna Jacobs of ESA’s Branding and Partnerships team commented: “We are always on the look-out for opportunities to introduce new audiences to ESA, so it is wonderful to be able to showcase some of the wonders of space with travellers at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol again.”
