Concordia research station at night. Situated far from civilisation at 3200 m altitude on an Antarctic plateau, Concordia offers researchers a unique place of study. Glaciologists, meterologists, geologists and astronomers spend nine months in isolation with four months of complete darkness running experiments and maintaining equipment.
ESA confirms satellite readings with instruments dotted around the base as well as running life-science experiments on the crew as they adapt to life in these harsh conditions in preparation for exploration of our Solar System.
