The Extravehicular Mobility Unit (EMU) is more than just a spacesuit: it provides environmental protection, mobility, life support and communications for astronauts, allowing them to work outside the International Space Station for up to 7 hours. The EMU was manufactured by International Latex Corporation (ILC), with a life support system made by Hamilton Standard, USA. European astronauts are trained in the use of both the NASA EMU suits and the Russian Orlan suits, both used on the Space Station.
