Photographer Gregor Sailer took this photo of ESA’s Mars Yard, used for testing planetary rover prototypes, as part of his Mars Series, which has been awarded at the European Architectural Photography Prize 2017.
The 8 x 8 m terrain sandbox, filled with different sizes of sand, gravel and rock, is part of the Planetary Robotics Laboratory at ESA’s technical centre in Noordwijk, the Netherlands.
Gregor Sailer photographed the centre last year as part of his Mars Series, with the cooperation of ESA and Airbus Defence and Space. For more information on the photographer and his work, visit his website: http://www.gregorsailer.com/
