Three-axis sensors employing magnetoresistive chips known as MAGIC (MAGnetometer from Imperial College) were flown aboard the RadCube mission, one in the body of the nanosatellite and one at the end of an 80-cm boom, which allows it to escape any magnetic noise from RadCube itself. These sensors are an order of magnitude smaller than the traditional science magnetometers that our team produces for ESA’s planetary missions such as Solar Orbiter, based on commercial magnetoresistive sensors found in smartphones and computer harddrives.
