Researcher Mary Diane Pilapil handles samples after a hypergravity test. The latest international group to employ ESA’s Large Diameter Centrifuge is a team from University of San Carlos and Holy Name University in the Philippines. The researchers are testing how bioprinted bone cells respond to hypergravity when grown on 3D-printed scaffolds made from carrageenan – a carbohydrate extracted from seaweed farmed in the tropics.
