This series of 19 images were captured by Mars Express on 30 March 2022 while tracking the larger martian moon Phobos, which can be seen in the foreground. Phobos lies around 12 261 km from the camera, with its uneven surface visible in the animation. The maximum diameter of Phobos is around 27 km.
The sequence of images depicts the passage of Phobos in front of its sibling Deimos, which can be seen in the background of the video. Situated almost 27 907 km from Mars Express, Deimos is smaller than Phobos, with a maximum width of 15 km across.
