The project
The team develops a radar to measure the altitude of the spacecraft up to 300 km and to measure the surface roughness of the Moon. Radar observations of the Moon from the Earth are limited to a single direction of incidence. From lunar orbit, observations can be made from a different viewpoint and angle than seen from the Earth, observing permanently-shaded polar regions that are not visible on optical images.
