This project is one of a kind – as is the team behind it.

YPSat and those involved with it are a testament to what ESA’s early career programmes can facilitate: the opportunity for ESA Young Professionals to take active part in work performed in a multicultural and multidisciplinary environment before actually being launched into space.

All YPSat members contribute voluntarily to this project alongside their other ESA duties. Most team members have graduated very recently, bringing creativity, dynamism and unclouded perspective to the project.

A key skill the team is having to develop is time-management and efficient organizing with one another. With fast turnover times and deliverables, the team have had to adopt an adaptive working structure, allowing team members to work flexibly with each other to meet deadlines.

Along with this, YPSat is working with several external partners; Scanway, a Polish company providing video acquisition system for the satellite; Oscar-Qube from the Hasselt University Student Project through the ESA Orbit My Thesis programme; and AMSAT Radio: Open-source European amateur radio network.

A Team from different ESA directorates

Along with the young professionals working at ESA coming from almost all Agency Directorates, most team members and contribution to the project comes from TEC, the Directorate of Technology, Engineering and Quality [LINK: https://technology.esa.int/ ]. The YPSat team has also received mentoring and help from many experts throughout ESA and beyond.
