N° 30–2023: Media invitation: Information session from ESA’s 316th Council in Sweden

The ESA Council will hold its 316th session on 28 and 29 June 2023 in Stockholm. This will be the first time that an ESA Council session is held in the Swedish capital. This session will address, among other topics, security-related applications, climate change projects, new space exploration endeavours, commercialisation and ESA transformation.An information session for media will be held at the end of the meeting.
ESA Council Chair Anna Rathsman (Sweden) and ESA Director General Josef Aschbacher will provide an update on the launch of new ESA Earth observation missions, upcoming astronaut missions, the Space Summit planned for 6-7 November 2023 in Sevilla (Spain), as well as the decision on the public release of official ESA documents.
A key topic will continue to be the autonomy of Europe in space, in particular in the areas of secured connectivity (“Iris 2”), resilience of space operations, Earth observation and space transportation. Finally, the Council will pay tribute to outgoing Chair, Anna Rathsman (Sweden), and express their appreciation for her service throughout her three-year tenure which will on 30 June 2023. Renato Krpoun (Switzerland) will begin his tenure as the new ESA Council Chair on 1 July 2023.
