ESA and Eurisy are inviting European teachers to ESRIN in Italy, to participate in a workshop on the EDUSPACE website. This educational tool has been designed to introduce secondary school students to Earth observation satellite data and its many uses.

EDUSPACE contains ideas, material and data that teachers can use to support geography and environmental subjects, as well as physics, computer sciences and even the arts. It was developed by Eurisy, an association founded in1989 to raise public awareness of the value of European space activities. Although developed with school age students in mind, older ‘students’ may also be interested in the EDUSPACE site as it contains information of interest to all ages.

The workshop commences on 31 October with the official handover of the site from Eurisy to ESA. On Friday 1 November there will be an introduction to the website and the use of EDUSPACE materials, and a hands-on session for digital image processing. Day two will consist of a field trip to the area around ESRIN and discussions on how best to use Earth observation data in the classroom. The workshop will be held in English but the contents of the website will soon be available in all the main European languages.

If you are a teacher with experience of multimedia teaching, enthusiastic about space and looking for ways to liven up your lessons, apply online, at: EDUSPACE News

The deadline for applications is Sunday, 15 September 2002.
