Would you like to see your own space artwork on the ESA Kids site? Here's your chance! Every month ESA Kids is looking at a different theme in more detail. Themes include everything from orbits and planets to astronauts and asteroids.

This March, you might notice the sky getting a bit darker right in the middle of the day — a partial solar eclipse! On 29 March, the Moon will pass between the Earth and the Sun, casting a shadow and making it look like someone took a very round bite out of it! People across Europe, North America, North Africa, parts of Asia, and beyond will get to see a partial eclipse, with the event starting around 11:16 CET in central Europe—but make sure to check the exact time for your location! It will start as early as 09:11 GMT in western Europe.

Eclipses have amazed and confused humans for centuries, inspiring myths, legends, and amazing scientific discoveries. What do eclipses look like in your imagination? Are you thinking about ancient myths of monsters eating the Sun? Or perhaps an alien world is experiencing a double eclipse with two suns disappearing behind a giant moon. However you picture it, we want to see your eclipse-inspired artwork!

This month's competition: Eclipses - Shadows In Space
Entries must be submitted by 31 March 2025.

How to Watch Safely

Looking at the Sun without protection is dangerous! Follow these tips to safely watch the eclipse:

  • NEVER look at the Sun directly—use special eclipse glasses or a solar viewer.
  • A pinhole projector lets you watch the eclipse’s shadow without looking up.
  • Find a spot with a clear view of the sky and get ready for an unforgettable celestial event!

Artwork could be a drawing, a painting, model or even something digital… use your imagination!

Get creative and show us your imagination through art!
We will select the best entries which will go into the Space Gallery and will receive a special prize from the European Space Agency.

Check out the ESA Kids website regularly to see who our monthly winners are!
