ESA’s SMOS (Soil Moisture and Ocean Salinity), is scheduled for a launch on a three-year mission in 2005.
Its main objective is to study ocean salinity, the water cycle and soil moisture, which are all vital indicators for weather forecasting, climate monitoring and the prediction of extreme events.
