At 11:45 local time (16:45 GMT), 15 September 2007, a chondritic meteorite crashed near the village of Carancas, Peru, creating a crater larger than 4.5m deep and 13m wide, and with visibly scorched earth around the impact site. This photo shows the right side of the crater, with an American meteorite hunter, Michael Farmer, and local policemen standing near the site.
