Technology in domain programmes
Earth Observation Envelope Programme (EOEP)
The Earth Observation Envelope Programme (EOEP) is the backbone of ESA activities in the field of Earth observation. It presents a stable planning environment within which new types of environmental sensing technologies and the missions that will fly them are prepared.
Advanced Research in Telecommuniations
Systems (ARTES 3-4 and 5)
ESA’s Telecommunications programme seeks to enhance the competitiveness of European industry by promoting the use of satellites in such functions as broadcasting, multimedia and mobile communications, data relay, search and rescue and aviation services.
European GNSS Evolution Programme
The European GNSS Evolution Programme (EGEP) is an ESA optional programme supported by 17 Member States and Canada. Its primary aim is to undertake research and development in and verification of technologies relating to regional space-based augmentation systems (SBAS) and global navigation satellite systems (GNSS).
European Transportation and Human Exploration Preparatory activities (ETHEP)
Space activities help to define nations and their place in the world. Countries that explore space are envied as frontier nations with cultural vigour and leading technologies. The number of countries involved in space exploration is growing steadily and we are entering a new era of historic significance, in which we will extend human presence beyond Earth's orbit, both physically and culturally.
Human Exploration
In partnership with the United States, Russia, Japan and Canada, Europe is sharing in the greatest international project of all time - the International Space Station (ISS). The 360-tonne International Space Station has more than 820 cubic metres of pressurised space - enough room for its crew of six persons and a vast array of scientific experiments.
Science Core Technology Programme (CTP)
The objective of the Science Core Technology Programme (CTP) is to ensure early and effective preparation of ESA's future science missions by advance preparation of the critical enabling technologies required for successful mission development.
Mars Robotic Exploration Preparation Programme (MREP)
The Mars Robotic Exploration Preparation (MREP) is an Optional Programme being implemented in ESA's Directorate of Science and Robotic Exploration and intended to prepare Europe's future contribution to the international exploration of Mars.
