ESA Grand Challenge forges ahead
The “ESA Grand Challenge” was approved at the Ministerial Council meeting in Lucerne, Switzerland on 30 November.
This is a new activity aimed at developing prizes to induce disruptive innovation.
It creates unique dynamics that reach out to a wide community of problem solvers, attracting unconventional approaches to innovation.
ESA Grand Challenge is a powerful tool to develop a new breed of European space entrepreneurs with a potential for transforming the landscape of Europe’s space industry and creating new markets through a mechanism of cross-fertilisation. It attracts and involves sponsors from non-space sectors aiming to unveil new talents and solutions.
ESA is currently assessing suitable Grand Challenge areas and themes to be proposed in the next few months.
