A meeting to discuss critical space technologies for European strategic non-dependence will be held on 19 September at Space Expo in Noordwijk, the Netherlands.

In addition to National Delegations, industry, SMEs and other European actors are invited to participate.

ESA, the European Commission (EC) and the European Defence Agency (EDA) together develop critical space technologies in Europe. Technology non-dependence aims to ensure that Europe can have free, unrestricted access to any technology required to implement Europe’s space missions.

In 2009, a coordinated and coherent European institutional approach was devised, targeting the development of critical space technologies and products for European strategic non-dependence.

The European non-dependence process was run in 2009, 2011 and 2014. The last cycle successfully established the list of actions for European strategic non-dependence on critical space technologies for 2015–2017.

The EC, ESA, EDA, and European stakeholders, have decided to conduct in 2016 the next cycle of the European non-dependence for the identification of actions to be addressed in 2018–2020.

The objective of the mapping meeting is to take stock of the actions taken in previous years and to gather and discuss feedback from Member States and industry/SMEs in order to complement and refine the current European view on critical space technologies for European non-dependence.
