The wind is one of the basic variables that describe the state of our atmosphere. ADM-Aeolus is the first mission that will measure atmopheric wind profiles directly from space.

It is an Earth Explorer mission that will use a high spectral resolution Doppler Wind Lidar to make accurate global measurements of vertical wind profiles in the troposphere and the lower stratosphere. This report presents the scientific rationale and objectives for the mission and gives details of the technical concept and operation.
