The 2023 Ecsite conference recently came to an end. As every year, the European Space Agency – which chairs the Space Group, one of the four Ecsite thematic groups – was at the forefront. As usual it was preceded by a workshop, organised by ESA and the Ecsite Space Group, under the theme 'Our Space, Our Planet'. The events took place in Malta from 14 to 17 June.

Held at the Esplora Science Centre in Malta on 14 June, the Ecsite Space Group pre-conference workshop brought together experts working in science centres and museums from all over Europe.

Focusing on the topics of sustainability and climate change, the workshop 'Our Space, Our Planet' asked questions such as: How can space science support sustainable development and address future challenges on Earth? And how can space science centres and professionals help to increase awareness of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and communicate solutions in a hopeful and positive way?
Also this year, the workshop has been confirmed as the European-wide hub for science professionals and museums to expand their knowledge about European space programmes, to develop collaborative projects and to share experiences and tools with ESA experts.

More about Ecsite and the Ecsite Space Group

Ecsite is the European Network of Science Centres & Museums, whose mission is to inspire people with science and technology. It brings together more than 300 organisations and is divided into four thematic groups, the Facilitation Group, the Nature Group, the REV Group and the Space Group. The Space Group improves and extends communication about space science by helping science centres, space professionals and non-specialists to develop collaborative projects and events.

Since 2012, ESA and Ecsite, have been combining their strengths, networks and capabilities in order to share European space programmes and achievements in space with their members.
