Studying the Sun and stars

The Sun is our nearest star and provides us with light and heat indispensable for our life.

By watching different areas in the sky, ESA’s powerful space observatories are able to study how stars are born and die, why galaxies have such different shapes and how the Sun and the solar wind interact with the Earth.

Space telescopes, such as Herschel and Planck, are investigating the Universe to give scientists a better understanding as to how it formed and evolved.
