StarTiger-2 external coronagraph demonstrator during testing. A Sun-simulating LED on the foreground optic bench shines a light beam through an occulting mask onto a mirror 15 metres away. This light then is reflected back towards the coronagraph instrument, also located on the optical bench. The demonstrator represents a complete end-to-end prototype of how an external coronagraph producing an artificial solar eclipse would operate in space.
