Flooded forest, Czech Republic

Regular flooding of the Dyje forest in the Czech Republic helps to sustain the ecosystem. As well as creating a valuable haven for biodiversity, it also brings important economic revenues through timber production. Sluices originally built to drain the floodplain now function the opposite way, leaving the forest to flood. The Morava-Dyje floodplains received a Ramsar Wetland Conservation Award in 2002.
