The ExoMars rover will land on Mars to collect and analyse samples from the subsurface, where scientists suggest that liquid water once existed.
This first European Mars rover will use new technology to drill up to 2 m deep. It will take samples to search for biological evidence that has been protected in the subsurface.
Data from the innovative set of ExoMars instruments will also help scientists explore environments favourable to life on the surface, and to investigate if liquid water still exists.
