ESRO-2B on launcher

The US Scout launch vehicle that carried the first European Space Research Organisation (ESRO) satellite into orbit, ESRO-2B, from the Vandenberg Air Force Base in California, USA, on 17 May 1968. The launcher is seen here shortly before launch, with the satellite mounted on the top of the vehicle, clearly marked with an ESRO logo on the fairing.
