Stéphane Lascar, Head of the ESA's Telecommunications Satellite Programmes Department, is pictured during the SGEO/H36W-1 Arianespace launch transmission, several minutes after the satellite launched from Kourou, French Guiana atop a Soyuz in the early hours of 28 January, 2017. 

The Hispasat 36W-1 satellite, based on ESA's SmallGEO platform, is designed to provide Europe, the Canary Islands and South America with faster multimedia services.
