Join the 2024-25 Climate Detectives project
Did you know you can challenge your students to become Climate Detectives, allowing them to work with real Earth Observation data to understand and protect Earth’s environment and climate? Join the 2024-2025 Climate Detectives project and empower your students to contribute to our planet’s future. Climate Detectives is run by ESA and national ESEROs.
As Climate Detectives, students will learn about Earth Sciences and investigate topics such as climate change, wildfires, floods, extreme weather, sustainable ways of living, biodiversity, air quality, oceans, forests, and much more. Climate Detectives Kids is perfect for young students (recommended up to 12 years old), offering fun, hands-on activities, while Climate Detectives (recommended up to 19 years old) allows older students to conduct full-scale scientific investigations using real satellite data.
Climate Detectives Kids
The beginner category, Climate Detectives Kids, engages teams of students with fun hands-on activities, allowing them to earn badges and become certified Climate Detectives Kids. Using suggested educational materials, students learn for example about weather vs. climate and why seasons exist on Earth. Teachers and educators can also suggest their own activities. Get inspired by the Climate Detectives Project Gallery and encourage your students to become part of the Climate Detectives Kids community. This category is ideal for students up to 12 years old.

Climate Detectives
For a bigger challenge, complete a full investigation into a local climate or environmental problem of your choice by participating in the advanced category of Climate Detectives. Teams of students conduct a complete investigation by following and replicating scientific research methods and using real satellite images and different Earth Observation data. Identify a problem, collect data, and share your findings with the Climate Detectives community to raise European-level awareness. Check out the project gallery, multimedia section, and mini case studies inspiration.
Through this project students get to work like real Earth scientists! Nationally-selected Climate Detectives teams, chosen by national ESERO offices, will be invited to join the an exciting learning and celebration event at ESRIN, ESA's site for Earth Observation in Italy on 12-13 May 2025!
Starting today, registrations are open for both categories. Check out our website and FAQ to learn more about the two categories and stages of your project. You are one step closer to making a difference!
