“Teach with the Moon” workshops
The next step in human space exploration is to further explore our natural satellite, the Moon. Our plans include the development of a gateway station in orbit and the construction of a permanent base on the surface of the Moon.
How will this future Moon infrastructure be constructed? One possibility is to 3D print it!
3D Design and 3D printing are increasingly relevant topics in the space industry and other branches of business. In this workshop you will be introduced to some cutting edge applications of 3D printing in space.
During the ESA Education “Teach with the Moon” workshop teachers are introduced to the 3D design software Tinkercad, its use in education and its relation to space applications. Apart from the 3D design, the workshop is also taking a step forward demonstrating how a 3D design can be sent to, and printed by a 3D printer and how 3D design can be combined with coding and the Virtual and Augmented Reality concept.
The workshop is not limited only to the 3D design aspect. Hands-on activities, related to the Moon exploration, will be experienced in practice by the teachers providing them with ideas on how to introduce and use Space Exploration theme in their classroom.
This training will also help the teachers see how to further explore the topic of 3D design with their students by joining the Moon Camp Challenge, an educational school project where student teams are challenged to design a habitat on the lunar surface or go beyond the Moon and explore other worlds in our Solar System.
Selected teachers will receive further information on the content of the workshop that will be delivered.
