Optical detectors are among the components, which are present in majority of the space payloads. No matter if they are part the core system (space-borne telescopes or earth observation missions) or a support systems (in navigation, star tracking, etc) the reliability and understanding of the data they provide is crucial for the outcome of these missions.

Detector is one of the core competences of the optoelectronic section(TEC-MME). The experts in TEC-MME section have a long track of project support related to detectors and have been leading the development of the technology by managing most of ESA’s funding programs related to detectors. TEC-MME has developed laboratory capabilities for both standard and customized radiometric characterisation of detectors. The availability of irradiation facility on-site makes the laboratory very suitable for investigation of radiation-induced performance changes. The laboratory is open for collaboration with ESA projects and also external partners.
