The Spaceship Earth exhibition is now open to the public in Linz, Austria. Put together by ESA and the Ars Electronica Center, the display of stunning images draws together the scientific value of Earth observation with the beauty of our planet.

Featuring astonishing satellite images of an ever-changing Earth, the exhibition offers visitors a wealth of information about how satellites are used to learn more about our planet and how they benefit everyday life.

For example, they show how information from space can help farmers decide the best time to plant and harvest crops, how they provide information about quality of the air we breathe for forecasts and how they are used to monitor the speed at which Earth’s glaciers are melting. As well as being essential for our scientific understanding of Earth and for practical applications, these images are also breathtaking in their beauty, inspiring artists to portray and redefine them.

Visitors have the opportunity to look at views of Earth from above, thanks to the imaginative displays and multitouch surfaces. Playful elements invite visitors to discover more, making the experience truly interactive. In a sense, the exhibition allows everyone to be an astronaut, at least for one day.

The exhibition is expected to run for a year.  For more information about opening hours and tickets, see the museum website.
