Exercise 2 - Creating an animation to understand the evolution of the island In this exercise you will create an animation of the vector layers. For a better visualisation, open the image layer 432_2000.tif. This image is a combination of bands 4, 3 and 2 of the Landsat image from 2000 displayed as red, green and blue respectively. The image has been cropped to include only the southern part of the St. Gheorghe coastal area. Now open, in the same viewer, the theme wl_1856. Ensure the colour of the polygon layer is set to white (as explained in step 9 of section 7.4 of the LEOWorks tutorial). Save the file with the polygon overlain as a jpg in a new folder called “animation” (LEOWorks tutorial step 3, section 3.1), naming the new file “1856”. Repeat this process with each of the other vector layers, until you have the following files in your animation folder: 1856, 1945, 1961, 1984.
Follow the steps outlined in section 6.4 of the LEOWorks tutorial to create an animation of the files you have just created. Experiment with different speeds of animation and select the Active Slider checkbox to see which image is displayed at a time. Last update: 16 April 2013
