1988: On 19 September 1988, Israel launched its first satellite, 'Ofeq-1' on board a Shavit rocket from the Negev Desert, becoming the ninth country to launch a rocket into space.
1961: On 19 September 1961, NASA announced that location of the new 'Manned Spacecraft Center' would be in Houston, Texas. This was the conclusion of an intensive nationwide study by a site selection team. The Manned Spacecraft Center would be the command centre for the manned lunar-landing missions and all follow-on manned spaceflight missions.
