Moore is an English amateur astronomer, writer and broadcaster. He is famous as the enthusiastic and knowledgeable presenter of the BBC TV programme The Sky at Night. Since April 1957, he has presented every one of the monthly shows, which has earned him a place in the 'Guinness Book of Records' as the longest serving television presenter.

He was born in Pinner, England, and his mother's copy of 'The Story of the Solar System' sparked his lifelong passion. He served as a navigator in the Royal Air Force during World War II, and since then has concentrated on studies of the Moon.

In 1959, the Russians used his charts to correlate the first Lunik 3 pictures of the far side of the Moon and he was involved in the lunar mapping for the NASA Apollo missions.
