Spend a weekend hacking space technology
This summer, Oxfordshire’s Harwell Campus Satellite Applications Catapult will once again be hosting their annual weekend-long Hackathon, inviting all with a passion for innovation to come solve a series of challenges using space technology.
The so-called ‘Inventorthon’ takes place on 28 and 29 June 2014, and celebrates entrepreneurial thinking, technology development and innovative answers. It encourages people to work together to solve various challenges using satellite data, and exploit the benefits both within and outside of the space sector. The aim of the game is to use knowledge and creative thinking to improve the world around us.
Participants are given access to the latest space data and intellectual property to solve a challenge of their choosing. This year’s set of challenges include illicit production and transportation of cocaine in Latin America, transforming smart phones into space equipment and many more. Challenges can be addressed alone or in independently-formed teams.
Registration is free, and participants can sleep over at the Catapult offices while working on their problems. Food, drink and residence are all provided, and there are prizes for the best solution, including possible mentoring and funding to help take the winning ideas to market.
The event will take place at the Harwell Oxford Campus Electron building, next to ESA’s ECSAT, from 9am on Saturday 28 June to 15.30 on Sunday 29 June. See the sidebar for the event website with registration details.
