 Software Engineering and Standardisation

 | | Space Software Engineering and Standardisation
| | Within the Software Systems Division, the Software Engineering and Standardisation Section is responsible for software engineering technologies and standards.
The section has expertise in software methods, tools, architectures and standards. Software engineering The section’s responsibilities cover the whole software life cycle, with emphasis on the early phases such as system-software co-engineering, requirements engineering, design, coding languages and compiler environment, automation of code generation and validation test generation.
Several R&D studies are delivering building blocks for potential use in generic architectures.
Software standardisation The section is deeply involved in software standardisation, both for internal ESA standards through the co-chairmanship of the BSSC (Board for Software Standardisation and Control), and for external software standards – mainly with ECSS (European Cooperation for Space Standardisation) and sometimes with ISO. Project support The section supports many space projects, including Galileo (space and ground segments), EGNOS, microgravity experiments and payloads of the space station, ATV, ExoMars, Vega and Ariane 5.
