Complex Adaptive Systems Theory for Intelligent, Socially-aware Air Transport

The modern air transport system is an open, complex, adaptive, highly dynamic, sociotechnical system. To understand and improve it, Complex Adaptive Systems is a promising paradigm with its essential modelling tools such as distributed AI (multiagent systems in particular) and complex networks. In this talk, I will explain the relevance of this new modelling paradigm for innovation in air transport by means of examples of several projects performed in collaboration with airlines, airports, and air navigation service providers. I will also discuss how the developed modelling principles and techniques could be applied in other sectors outside air transport.
