The Future Circular Collider at CERN: a next-generation facility for particle physics

Michelangelo Mangano

Theoretical Physics Group, CERN

Progress in the exploration of the fundamental laws of physics at the shortest distance scales and at the highest energies requires the use of particle colliders. The Large Hadron Collider at CERN, which discovered the Higgs boson, is set to continue into the late 2030's the study of the Higgs properties, as well as the search for possible new phenomena. Beyond that, the FCC would represent the next step in this exploration, increasing by a large factor both the precision and the discovery reach of the LHC. This talk will review the FCC scientific motivations, its physics potential, and the technological challenges.
