Solar geoengineering: an emerging scientific and political challenge
Peter Irvine and Stefan Schäfer
UCL London and IASS Potsdam
Solar geoengineering refers to a set of proposed measures aimed at limiting global temperature rise by increasing the amount of sunlight that is reflected away from Earth, such as spreading reflective aerosols in the stratosphere or increasing the density and lifetime of marine clouds. In this talk, Peter Irvine (University College London) and Stefan Schäfer (Institute for Advanced Sustainability Studies, Potsdam) present an overview of the key scientific-technical and socio-political questions that arise in connection with solar geoengineering.
