Quantum in space: satellite based entanglement distribution

We want to create a quantum internet, where any two people on earth can have a quantum connection. Such an quantum connection can be used for example to perform quantum cryptography or distributed quantum computing. However, we run in to a problem for long-distance links. Due to exponential losses for the quantum information in fibre-based networks, any link longer then a few kilometers becomes difficult to obtain and slow. Because of these losses, we explore space based segments through analytical modelling, where losses scale more favourably with distance.
