SpOC: a GECCO 2022 Competition

The European Space Agency's Advanced Concepts Team (ACT) partners with the Genetic and Evolutionary Computation Conference (GECCO) to propose a new competition in spring 2022!

For more than two decades, GECCO has been a showcase for state-of-the-art results in genetic and evolutionary computation. In past years, the ACT has been closely collaborating with the organising committee of GECCO and presentating their latest works in optimisation during their conferences. We can finally announce that we are ready to take this partnership one step further by proposing a new and challenging competition to the Evolutionary Computation community!

SpOC (Space optimisation Competition) is an optimisation challenge that will have experts around the world compete to solve three complex optimisation problems wrapped up in a stimulating and exotic space mission scenario.

On 1 April 2022, a futuristic space mission architecture will be revealed along with three different optimisation challenges directly related to it. Participants will have three months to share their best approaches to solving all three of those challenges, and compete for first place on the overall SpOC leaderboard against the best teams in the world.

The mission concept and design is up to us, but it will be up to you to make it happen! Will you rise to the occasion and claim first place in this new exciting "Ironman" of space optimisation?

Learn more about the competition and join the adventure on 1 April 2022!
