SpOC 2.0: we are back with GECCO 2023!
Get ready to embark on a thrilling and imaginative journey with the European Space Agency's Advanced Concepts Team (ACT) and the Genetic and Evolutionary Computation Conference (GECCO) as we present the highly anticipated second edition of the Space Optimisation Competition (SpOC) in spring 2023!
SpOC is a yearly optimisation challenge that attracts experts from around the world to solve three complex optimisation problems embedded in a stimulating and exotic space mission scenario.
On 1 April 2023, we will reveal a futuristic space program architecture, along with three different optimisation challenges directly related to it. Participants will have three months to share their best approaches to solving all three challenges and compete for first place on the overall SpOC leaderboard against the brightest minds in the field.
Take a sneak peek at our teaser poster and get a glimpse into the exciting world of SpOC 2.0. The poster, created with the help of OpenAI's DALL-E generative AI, hints at the three optimization challenges that await you, each one more intriguing than the last. Can you guess what we have in store for you this year?
Although the competition is set in a futuristic and imaginative setting, the optimisation challenges we present can be mapped to real-life scenarios relevant to space systems engineers. We have carefully designed these challenges to be both exciting and practical, pushing the boundaries of what is possible while remaining relevant to the field. So, even though you'll be working on advanced space concepts, the skills and knowledge you gain will have practical applications in the world of space exploration. Don't miss this opportunity to challenge yourself and make valuable contributions to the future of space technology and exploration!
