Amy Thomas

Hey! I joined the ACT in September 2022 as a YGT in Computational Materials Discovery and Design. My research interests are in metamaterial lattices, post-buckling behaviour and non-linear dynamics.

I completed a Masters in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Bristol in August 2022 and moved straight to the Netherlands. My dissertation explored manipulating the post-buckling modes of metamaterial lattices. It is an exciting time to do lattice-based research! I believe that advancements in 3-d printing, inverse structural design and non-linear modelling will allow designers to fully unlock the potential of lattice structures for application across many industries. This year at the ACT I hope to combine my interests with machine learning (AI) methods to investigate further improvements to tailoring lattice functionality.

Outside of work I enjoy sailing, cooking, playing board/video games and pursuing short-term obsessions.
