Rita Mastroianni

I am Rita and I joined the Advanced Concept Team as Research Fellow in Advanced Mission Analysis.

I have a bachelor's degree in Mathematics, as well as a master's degree in Pure and Applied Mathematics at the University of Rome "Tor Vergata". I obtained the Ph.D. in Mathematics this year, at the University of Padova, defending a thesis in the area of Celestial Mechanics.

During my training I have been fascinated by the applications of rigorous theoretical studies to real life. In particular, I am passionate about the mutual interactions between natural phenomena and their mathematical description. During my research activity I have mainly dealt with the qualitative study, as well as the application of a number of methods of canonical perturbation theory, in a class of nearly-integrable problems arising within the framework of the modelling of 3D planetary systems. The focus was on methods stemming from the use of canonical perturbation theory in exoplanetary dynamics. To this end, my thesis focuses on a comparison between extended numerical simulations and the outcome of (semi-)analytical models constructed within the framework of canonical perturbation theory, as well as the Kolmogorov normal form in KAM theory.

In my free time, I enjoy listening to music, watching films and I love cooking, especially cakes (but, obviously, they are in gluten free version!)
