Rohan Ramasamy
I joined the ACT in 2017, at a point in my career when I still had a broad set of interests, and was looking to decide which area of research in energy systems I wanted to commit myself to. I was deciding between staying in fusion systems, or returning to the renewable energy concepts that I studied in my Masters.
The ACT gave me the chance to take a final step back before doing this, re-assessing the potential energy futures available, before I decided what I would do next. One of the main lessons the ACT taught me was that, while it is necessary to commit to a research field, a multidisciplinary approach to research should not be undervalued.
My main projects at the ACT are listed below:
- Review of the future applications of high power lasers in space.
- Systems engineering study of solar power satellites as an enabling technology for Lunar rover exploration.
- Investigation of thermalisation processes within reactant and product beams within IEC thruster concepts.
My main hobbies are racket sports, and playing music, neither of which offer me a backup career if I end up a failed scientist.
