Zacharia A. Rudge

I'm currently a co-funded doctoral researcher at the European Space Agency's Advanced Concepts Team and at the Delft University of Technology's Computer Engineering laboratory.

Previously, I completed two master's degrees at TU Delft, the first in Computer Engineering (with a digital circuit design focus), and the second in Embedded Systems (specializing in control systems). I also have a bachelor's degree in Computer Science and have worked as both a software engineer and electrical engineer on smallsats in the space industry.

My current research is concerned with the research, development and prototyping of a novel type of neural network accelerator for space missions, based on memristors. Memristors are, at their most basic, a type of electronic component which can remember voltages that have passed through it prior and adjust its resistance accordingly.

Other than its potential use in memory, it is also a promising device for the development of artificial neural networks in hardware. They are generally radiation resistent, allow for low power inference and are very scalable. I aim to advance the state of the art in memristor-based neural network accelerators, and also introduce their use in the space field.

In my free time, I enjoy doing 3D art, building stuff, programming video games and longboarding.
