Would you like to see your own space artwork on the ESA Kids site? Here's your chance! Every month ESA Kids is looking at a different theme in more detail. Themes include everything from orbits and planets to astronauts and asteroids.

This month, we’re staring up at the sky for a truly exciting event: Planetary Parade! At the end of February, all our other seven planets— Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune —will line up on a curve in the night sky (undergoing planetary alignment!). You will even be able to see four of the planets — Mercury, Venus, Mars and Jupiter — without binoculars or a telescope!

Imagine what it would be like to watch this incredible dance. What do the planets look like in your imagination? Are they gathering in the sky for an important meeting? Would they be having a musical parade, with space drums, colourful instruments, and mysterious light shows? Maybe you’ll dream up some alien party, celebrating the beauty of a planetary parade.

Bring the wonder of these planet-filled nights to life and show us what your parade looks like!

This month's competition: Planetary Parade
Entries must be submitted by 28 February 2025.

Tips for viewing the parade:

  • The planets will be most visible in central Europe around the evenings just after sunset (after 18:10) on 2nd March the alignment will be most visible – with Saturn, Mercury, Venus, and Neptune lying in the west and Jupiter, Uranus and Mars being higher in the sky, closer to the south.
  • Find somewhere away from bright lights, with a clear view of the sky and grab some binoculars, if possible, to see those fainter planets.
  • Use online applications like Stellarium or Star Walk to help you find the planets and plan the best time to see the parade!

Artwork could be a drawing, a painting, model or even something digital… use your imagination!

Get creative and show us your imagination through art!
We will select the best entries which will go into the Space Gallery and will receive a special prize from the European Space Agency.

Check out the ESA Kids website regularly to see who our monthly winners are!
