ESA in the top 20 preferred employers in Germany
ESA is ranked within the top 20 most attractive employers for students and young graduates in Germany, according to the research institute Universum's report released in May 2016.
ESA is ranked 20th for engineering and 13th for natural sciences. This ranking shows how the cutting-edge space missions and programmes, multicultural and multinational teams, international cooperation and long-term career opportunities that ESA offers makes it an attractive prospect for future engineers and scientists in Germany.
Universum carries out annual surveys throughout its large networks of students and young graduates in Germany. Through the course of the survey, 45 000 young students and graduates from 215 universities told Universum what they thought of ESA as a potential employer.
Looking for bright minds
“ESA offers to the young generation of engineers and scientists the chance to join pluridisciplinary and multicultural teams and take part in fascinating programmes and missions in an attractive working environment,” says Bettina Boehm, Head of Human Resources at ESA.
Graduate schemes are an excellent entry point into the space industry and ESA is always on the look-out for talented young people in the following fields of expertise: aerospace and mechanical engineering, communications and electrical engineering, software engineering, physics, astronomy/astrophysics, mathematics, biology/medicine, law and business administration. Applicants must be a citizen of one of the ESA Member States.
Graduate programmes:
The one-year Young Graduate Trainee (YGT) programme gives 80 graduates each year the opportunity to gain valuable experience in the development and operations of space missions. As a YGT, you’ll take on a responsible role in supporting a project and benefit from the expertise of an ESA mentor. This, in addition to the rich personal experience of living and working in another country and in a diverse and international environment, makes the YGT programme very popular.
ESA’s two-year Postdoctoral Research Fellowship programme aims to offer young scientists and engineers the possibility to carry out research in a variety of disciplines related to space science, space applications or space technology. Applicants must have recently attained their doctorate in a field closely connected to space activities.
