Luca Parmitano was born in Paternò, Italy on 27 September 1976, though he considers Catania his hometown. He completed his first six-month Volare mission to the International Space Station in 2013 and returned to space for his Beyond mission in 2019, serving as the third European and first Italian commander of the International Space Station during Expedition 61.
