Follow discussions at the three-day Earth Observation Science 2.0 conference live from ESA’s centre for Earth Observation in Frascati, Italy, on 12–14 October.

The way that Earth observation data are used is changing rapidly driven by the availability of open data and by today’s advances in digital technologies. The conference, the first of its kind, has been organised to explore the emerging challenges and opportunities that this has created.

The objective is to gather feedback on new trends and practices by next generation scientists. It provides an international forum for scientists to present activities relevant to Earth observation open science themes, and to formulate community recommendations.

Open tools and software, data-intensive science, virtual research environment, citizen science and crowdsourcing, advanced visualisation, e-learning and education of the new generation of data scientists, are just some of the topics that will be covered.

The conference programme is available on the Earth Observation Science 2.0 website.
