ESA's Marecs-B maritime communications satellite awaits encapsulation by the payload fairing (background) on top of Ariane's third stage. It sits on top of the Sylda adapter, which houses Italy's Sirio satellite. Both satellites were lost in the launch failure of 10 September 1982. The Marecs-B2 replacement launch was successful 10 November 1984. [Image Date: 01-09-82] [82.09.004-452]
