Soho's Large-Angle Spectrometric Coronagraph (LASCO) observes a dramatic ejection of hot gas and magnetic energy, known as a coronal mass ejection (CME), from the Sun's southwest limb on 2 June 1998. By coincidence, Soho hours earlier observed two comets being vaporised in the Sun's corona, although the two events are believed to be unconnected. [Image Date: 02-06-98] [98.07.006-010]
